Meribel Event Guide for 2015/16 ski season

The ski season is almost upon us! If you’re doing your exercises, have practiced on an artificial ski slope and booked your ski holiday, there is only one thing left to do – find out what you’ll soon be enjoying.

If you’re staying in one of our Meribel chalets, you can enjoy some of the best events in all of France. Here we take you through the event highlights to look forward to during the 2015/2016 ski season.

La Verticale du Hameau Ski Touring Race, December

This touring race will see competitors start their tour at 10:30am and gain 748m in altitude. If you fancy even more of a challenge, this touring race counts as a qualifier to the French Championship. It is open to anyone to take part, so if you’re up for it, don’t let anything hold you back.

It costs €5 to register, which should be done at Alp’Attitude Sport Shop in Mottaret.

When: Sunday 6 December

Les Nocturnes de Hameau, December to April

In the mood for a competition? Compete solo or as a relay team to complete three loops around Meribel-Mottaret, starting at 6:30pm. A bit of night-time ski touring racing could be just the ticket to finish off a champion day.

As with the above event, register at the Alp’Attitude Sport Shop.

When: Tuesday 22 December, 29 December, 2 February, 9 February, 23 February, 1 March, 8 March, 15 March, 29 March, 5 April, 12 April

Location: Meribel-Mottaret

British Armed Forces International Ski Championships, January/February

Army, Royal Navy and RAF personnel will be taking to the slopes and competing in ski, telemark and snowboard races. Over the week there will be downhill, Super GS, slalom, slopestyle, boardercross and sprint races. Come along and cheer on the competitors!

When: Sunday 31 January to Friday 5 February

Location: Corbey Stadium in Meribel Valley

Le Raclett’O Show, February

Have you ever had raclette? It’s a wonderful cheese that is often served with small platters of food, where diners can heat tasty titbits with a little bit of the cheese under an electric grill. Raclette de Savoie cheese is one of the best cheeses for melting. And the event is free. Need we say more? Yum!

When: Monday 8 February, 4pm-8pm

3 Vallees Enduro, April

Partner up with friends and family, and in teams of three compete in this day of fun and original challenges. Categories are pro, amateur and family. Some of the expected challenges include freeride, big air bag, freestyle, family schuss, and skicross. There will also be the massive Savoyard buffet at the end of the day, and an awards ceremony, not to be missed!
