French ski runs named among the best in the world

A number of French ski runs have been named among the best in the world and here we take you through the best pistes you can test your skills on.

Winter is coming and with the ski and snowboard season nearly upon us, having knowledge of where the best pistes in the world are is a great place to start planning your next holiday.

The Daily Mirror has revealed the resorts that boast the best pistes in the world and France is certainly not lacking a world class piste, according to the article.

In total there are three pistes in France that feature in the list and here we guide you through the ones that made the cut.

Grand Couloir, Courchevel

Courchevel may have been built for ski enthusiasts after World War II, but now the resort is one of the most popular in the world and is home to some of the most deluxe ski chalets in France.

For the adventurous types, the Grand Couloir piste is regarded as one of the best in the world with its snow offering skiers and snowboarder’s great conditions. To get there you will have to travel along a narrow ridge and gully, although it is well worth it once you get to experience this fantastic piste.

The Aiguille Rouge, Les Arcs

The Aiguille Rouge is three and half miles of red and black runs that descend from the highest point in Les Arcs down to the village of Villaroger at the bottom.

The piste is over 2,000 metres long and despite starting on a black run it soon leads onto a red run, meaning everyone barring absolute beginners will be able to go on this exhilarating run.

Sache, Tignes

Linking Val d’Isère and Tignes, the Espace Killy ski area, which is where Sache is located, is regarded as one of the toughest marked descents in the world.

However, the 10km run from Aiguille Percée down to Les Brévières offers fresh tracks before it heads into one of the world’s longest mogul fields.

It is best to visit the piste after decent snowfall as at the bottom of the run it can get icy, but after heading down this epic run you will be able to relax at one of its restaurants.
