Vallandry is the perfect place to spend your summer; there’s so much to see and do in the surrounding area during the summer period, whether you’re a family, couple or solo traveller.

Read on for the top 5 things to do in Vallandry and the surrounding area in the summer months...

1. Take a trip to the Vallandry village:

Surrounded by remarkable mountain terrain, the Vallandry village lies only 10 minutes from the Ski Olympic residences and hosts a hive of activity in the Summer. Most importantly, there is something for everyone. The variety of restaurants and bars found in the village serve classic French cuisine, from homemade onion soup to salad Savoyard, traditional raclettes to delicious crêpes. There are places to buy patisserie and fresh bread, so you can enjoy tasty homemade delicacies during your stay. Did you know that Peisey-Vallandry is the only place where you can eat myrtillous, Emmanuel Goutorbe’s take on the classic blueberry tart? Come and try one for yourself in Vallandry!

Aside from the restaurants, the village sees a variety of events take place: in August 2021, there was a three-day music festival hosted in the centre of the village. Why not visit the Eterlou cinema for a break from the sun, or take a trip to the chapel of Notre-Dame-des-Vernettes for a cultural immersion? You may also wish to tour the six chapels of Peisey-Nancroix, or relax out in the Peisey library with a book. The village is also equipped with a supermarket, which is perfect for filling the fridge in our self-contained chalets.

2. Explore the mountains on your doorstep:

There are numerous walks accessible from the Ski Olympic chalets. Once you’ve explored the immediate area, we’d recommend taking a trip up the mountain from the Vallandry village, where you can enjoy exceptional views and explore the terrain by foot or bike. The new Vallandry Gondola for Winter 2021/22 is currently in the works, and we’ll be updating you on its progress soon. At the top of the Gondola, there will be a viewing platform and animal museum. There is also a mountain restaurant with an outdoor pool.

If you’d like to explore the mountains from above, why not try paragliding? This unique opportunity offers views of Mont Blanc, Aiguille Rouge and more, providing an unforgettable holiday experience.

3. Visit the Vanoise National Park:

Created in 1963, the Vanoise National Park is an impressive mountain range located a mere 15-minute car or bus journey from the Ski Olympic residences. The highest peak of the Park’s heart reaches 3855 metres, and there is a plethora of hiking routes that suit all abilities. The Park is a fantastic spot to enjoy a summer picnic and snap shots of the stunning landscape, and the surrounding area includes several spots for a coffee and ice-cream break.

4. Take a trip to Arc 1800:

There is plenty to do in the local area, but Vallandry also lies at the heart of a multitude of spots worth visiting. Take the beautiful off-road woodland trail on foot or by bike to reach Arc 1800, a mere twenty minutes from the Ski Olympic chalets. You can also access the Arc by car or bus.

Arc 1800 is a great spot for fun activities: there’s an outdoor swimming pool for children and adults alike, a mini-golf course, a climbing wall, plus a variety of shops and bars with comfy seating. The Gondola can also take you to even more cycle and walking routes across the mountain.

5. Explore Bourg-Saint-Maurice

Journey down the mountain to find the historic town of Bourg, a delightful area worth exploring. The bustling town hosts markets, and is home to numerous restaurants, cafes and bakeries, as well as a variety of shops selling clothes and decor products.

If you’re looking for an adventure, you may enjoy white water rafting down the alpine rivers (suitable for all abilities from 8yrs), or you may wish to visit the spa if you’re keen to rest and relax.
