A Guide to Skiing and Snowboarding in the Vallandry/Les Arcs Area

A Guide to Skiing and Snowboarding in the Vallandry/Les Arcs Area (France).

As the season draws ever closer, we’ve curated a guide to the Vallandry/Les Arcs resort. Whether you’re a returning client or have never been to the resort before this year, we hope this guide will help you feel right at home on the slopes and get the most out of what is sure to be a phenomenal winter holiday.

The choice is endless in the Les Arcs resort, and the variety means you’ll feel welcome whatever your current ski/snowboard level. Of the 261 runs, 12 are green, 135 are blue, 77 are red and 37 are black (1). Some runs are hidden within snowy woodland, whilst others are open across wide valleys.

For beginners: If you’re just starting out on your ski/snowboard journey, head up the Vallandry Gondola to the beginners slope, newly designed for the coming season. As it’s dedicated to skiers and snowboarders who have little to no experience on the slopes, you can expect a relaxed atmosphere so you can take your first turns in peace. It’s in a convenient location, too, as you’ll find it at the end of your journey on the Gondola, the first lift up the mountain from Vallandry.

For medium-level skiers/snowboarders: Head up the Derby chairlift and tackle the red run that takes you to the Transarc lift. It’s the perfect balance between challenging and fun, and there’s multiple paths of different levels (blue and red) to take that will lead you to the same location.

For advanced skiers: Looking for an adrenaline rush? Head up to the Aiguille Rouge, a beautiful spot 3,226m above sea level with stunning 360 degree views of the valley. To get there, take the Vallandry Gondola before heading up the Transarc, followed by the Varet Gondola. It’s not for the faint hearted, with steep and narrow sections to navigate, but the route to Villaroger is a breathtaking experience. Be sure to snap lots of photographs to bring back to La Foret!

Just for fun: The Les Arcs Snowpark is an adventure you can’t miss. The park welcomes skiers/snowboarders of all abilities as there’s options for all ages and levels, and there’s always a spectacle to observe when people tackle the most ambitious and daring jumps.

Managing Director’s recommendation: The long, undulating, wide blue runs that snake down from the Arpette Chairlift will take you all the way back to La Foret, or you can peel off to the Snow Park if you wish.

Eating and drinking on the slopes: La Caverne at La Foret will be open for your morning hot chocolate and throughout the day, so why not stop by for a spot of lunch or your favourite beverage? The Vallandry village has some fantastic restaurants serving a wide variety of savory and sweet options; there’s something for every weather, as many places have alfresco and indoor dining options. Looking further afield, the Bulle Café at the foot of the Aiguille Rouge offers glorious views whilst you sip your drink in the recliners outside, and Arc 1950 hosts some wonderful restaurants if you’re heading over that way.

We can’t wait to welcome you to Vallandry this season. Call our office on (+44) 01302 328820 to enquire or book your holiday in Vallandry online.
